POCO M5 “The Performance Player” - Gaming Experience Review

Earlier this year, POCO released POCO M4 Pro with MediaTek Helio G96. Recently, POCO has brought us the brand new POCO M5 with the latest MediaTek Helio G99. Today, I would like to try out the gaming performance on POCO M5. Before we get started, let’s have a quick recap on the characteristics of MediaTek Helio G99.

• TSMC 6nm Manufacturing Process
• Octa-core CPU, 2 x Cortex-A76 (up to 2.2GHz) + 6 x Cortex-A55 (up to 2.0GHz)
• Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU

According to the comparison above, the AnTuTu benchmark score that MediaTek Helio G99 is able to achieve is higher than the Snapdragon® 732G. Recently, I had run a few benchmark tests in AnTuTu Benchmark and Geekbench 5 to test the performance for POCO M5. I will share the result screenshots in the following.

In my observation, POCO M5 did a good job to run smoothly during the gameplay with the highest graphic settings available. Besides that, the highest temperature POCO M5 is around 41°C and the battery usage for half an hour is around 7%. In my opinion, POCO M5 is suitable for primary / secondary school students who are looking for an affordable smartphone with awesome gaming performance.
